Bucks County Accountant Charged With Stealing From 100-Year-Old Woman

Detectives are investigating whether a Yardley accountant accused of stealing $116,667 from a 100-year-old Delaware County woman stole from any other clients.

Jeanne Swain, 58, who operated an accounting firm on South Main Street in Yardley, was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception, according to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office. She was arraigned and released on $250,000 unsecured bail.

Swain stole the money from the 100-year-old woman to settle a $292,072.53 gambling losses that she racked up over a five-year period. The stolen money was also used to pay for living expenses, office rent, her ex-husband’s rent, insurance and taxes, authorities said.

The money was taken when the elderly woman’s accountant of 22 years wrote numerous checks from her accounts, authorities said.
