A bomb threat led to the evacuation of Bristol Borough’s elementary school Wednesday afternoon.

Bristol Borough School Board Vice President Kelly Cochran told LevittownNow.com students and staff were evacuated from Snyder-Girotti Elementary School on the corner of Beaver and Pond streets around 2:10 p.m. after a bomb threat was found.

Police, who were not immediately available for comment, responded to the school and began a search to determine if the threat was founded, Cochran said, adding the search of the building could go on until 6 p.m.

Cochran described the evacuation as “orderly” and said all students and staff are safe.

Students’ belongings will be locked in classrooms overnight following the completion of the search. Cochran said the only exceptions would be for students who had medically-necessary items left in the classrooms.

Parents said they were notified of the bomb threat via a phone call from the district.

“The staff was magnificent in the supervision of everything,”  the school board vice president said.
