A Neshaminy School District resident who works as a substitute teacher made an interesting suggestion to the school board Tuesday evening.
Middletown resident Steve Rodos, a regular at school board meetings, pointed out that the district will be searching for a new superintendent to lead the 8,400-student school system in the new year. Currently, the district is led by interim Superintendent Dr. Gloria Hancock, who has told LevittownNow.com she is not interested in pursuing the full-time position.

Rodos suggested to the board that “look to the assets you have in the district” or see if district employees can recommend qualified candidates instead of mounting an expensive nationwide search.
He also asked the school board to look for qualified candidates from New Jersey.
“I say this because Gov. Christie has made it possible for New Jersey superintendents, who are capped at a salary, to be hired across the river in Pennsylvania,” Rodos explained.

The last superintendent, Robert Copeland, left Neshaminy in summer for a job in the Lower Merion, Montgomery County school system. After his departure, Dr. David Baugh took the reigns for several weeks as an interim superintendent until he was hired for a full-time leadership position by the Centennial School District.
Board President Scott Congdon said he hopes the Bucks County Intermediate Unit is used to help search the Philadelphia region for a new superintendent. He said there no cost to the district if that route is picked.

Also at the meeting, members of the public congratulated those who one the school board races and also thanked the current board members whose terms will coming to an end.
Several board members also congratulated the newly-elected board members.
“I wish you nothing but the best for the future of the district” Shubin said.
