A Bristol Township man was jailed after police in New Jersey charged him with a failed commercial burglary.
Tony Petrozzelli, 45, of Bristol Township’s Fairless Hills section, was charged last week with burglary, criminal mischief, obstruction and contempt of court. Petrozzelli was jailed on $61,887.15 bail.

Last Thursday, a Willingboro Township police officer patrolling commercial properties found a vehicle with its headlights off parked in the shopping plaza around 4:05 a.m. The officer saw a man, identified later as Petrozzelli, exit the vehicle and walk away. A short time later, Petrozzelli was observed running back to his vehicle, according to a press release.
The officer then drove up to the suspicious vehicle and activated his emergency lights. Petrozzelli immediately jumped out and began to run toward a wooded area when he saw the officer, police said.
After a foot pursuit and a response from additional patrol officers, Petrozzelli was taken into custody, police said.

“While handling this incident it was discovered that the subject had actually attempted to burglarize the Quick Stop Store by smashing an outer glass door and entering the vestibule. The suspect was not successful in breaking a second door to enter the main store and subsequently ran from the scene which is when the officer observed him returning to his vehicle. Officers were able to positively identify the suspect in custody as being the same subject who attempted to enter the store by reviewing the security camera footage,” a statement from police said.
Petrozzelli was found to have four outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.
