A handful of no call, no show bus drivers for the Bristol Township School District caused some problems on the first day of classes, according to officials.

School board member Jim Baker ripped the employees who failed to show up on the first day of school earlier this month.

“That takes a lot of nerve,” Baker said of their actions.

Acting Superintendent Dr. Melanie Gehrens confirmed that a “handful” of bus drivers failed to show up and gave no notice they were finished with their jobs. She said she was not aware whether the drivers were district employees or working for the district’s transportation contractor.

The district scrambled on their first day of classes to get some students to school on time due to the absences. Gehrens said substitute bus drivers were called in and filled the empty positions.

Otherwise, district officials said they were pleased with how smoothly transportation on the first few days of school went.
