Since December 2014, PennDOT and its contractors have used more than 50,000 tons of patching material to fix roadways in the region, according to officials.
PennDOT spokesperson Charles Metzger told LevittownNow.com that state crews were joined by private contractors earlier this year due to the large number of potholes. He also said PennDOT was pulling crews and equipment from around the state to help in the Philadelphia area this spring.
As the spring turns to summer, PennDOT crews are beginning to resurface 190 miles of rough pavement throughout the area. Officials note that 99 miles of the work is paid for under the Act 89 transportation funding bill.
