A famous Pennsbury High School graduate is drawing some heat for comments he made on a podcast.
Zach Woods, star of HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and NBC’s “The Office,” called Philadelphia “depressing” on comedian Marc Maronโs “WTF “podcast.
Woods, who grew up in Yardley and graduated from the Falls Township high school in 2003, called the City of Brotherly Love a “kind of a racist city.”
According to the podcast, Woods evenย made negative comments regarding the city’s sport’s teams. “…And their sports โ and Iโm not a big sports guy โ but I remember when I was growing up and Santa Claus would skate onto the ice around Christmas time at Flyers games, people would throw batteries at Santa Claus.”
Both Philly.com and PhillyMag.com called out the popular actor on his comments.
From PhillyMag.com writer Holly Otterbein:
“You call yourself a comedian and your go-to joke about Philly is about that time in the 1960sย when we harassed Santa? Weak, Woods, weak. You’re about as funny as The New York Times. Also, we’d never throw batteries at Santa. Only snowballs!”
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Woods even reminisced about his not so “easy” time at the local high school.
โWhen I weirdly went to jazz camp, I got bulliedโฆAT JAZZ CAMP. I got picked on by a tiny violist. He used to play Magic the Gathering, his viola, take ceramics classes, and then talk SO MUCH sh*t to me.โ
Aside from the recent dislike for Wood’s comments, two people who knew him in high school have told LevittownNow.comย he was a pretty nice guy.
Wood’s is one of several famous alumni of the school. The like of which include actor Richard Kind, former football player Troy Vincent, Preston and Steve host Kathy Romano and journalist Robert Costa.
