A fire just feet away from a Quaker Hill Road in Middletown’s Levittown section could have been a lot worse if the flames spread, according to authorities.
On Monday, 51-year-old Levittown resident Patrick Mongeau was sentenced to 16 to 32 years in state prison for the arson fire that damaged the siding and a motorcycle at his ex-girlfriend’s house last year. The fire involved gasoline poured on the property and set ablaze.

Authorities have said that four children of Mongeau’s ex-girlfriend were inside the house sleeping at the time of the fire, which happened after he assaulted her at the Penn Warner Club in Falls Township.
Officers at the scene of the arson fire arrested Mongeau after they spotted him driving by on his motorcycle a short time after.
During an interview at the police station, Middletown Detective David Strother noted Mongeau’s shoe smelled of gasoline.

Mongeau’s ex-girlfriend said she kicked him out of her house in September 2013 and said he has been continually harassing her since, according to court papers. Middletown police records show they responded to domestic incidents and threats nine times since 2012.
Mongeau was found guilty of arson, reckless burning, criminal mischief, stalking, recklessly endangerment and simple assault following a trial in February.

Bucks County Deputy District Antonetta Stancu said Judge Diane Gibbon sentenced Mongeau to the maximum penalty in the case.
