Volunteer crews from the Parkland, Penndel and William Penn fire companies assisted Bensalem authorities fight a Wednesday morning blaze.
Crews from Penndel and Middletown were dispatched to the fire at 4534/4536 Windingbrook Drive at 5:07 a.m.

“Upon arrival, police and fire personnel encountered a two-story duplex with fire showing from the first and second floor of the structure. Families from the two houses were evacuated prior to emergency services arriving on scene,” police said in a statement.
The flames appear to have originated in the area of a plastic storage unit on the front porch of 4534 Windingbrook Drive, the statement notes.
The fire is currently under investigation, officials said.
