A Croydon woman is the newest member of the Bristol Township School Board.

The board voted 6-0 Monday evening to appoint 29-year-old Amanda Geist to the board. Geist is also running as a Democrat for a seat on the board in the primary election.

Geist fills the seat left empty last month when Patricia Koszarek stepped down and announced she was moving to Delaware to be closer to her family.

Geist said she understands both being a parent of two young children and also a school teacher. The Neshaminy High School graduate earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Temple University.

The new board member, who has taught students in Philadelphia for 8 years, said she was “excited” to take on the seat. She noted her interest in education and politics, dating back to when she was in college.

School Board President Angela Nober said several people applied for the open seat and interviews with applicants were conducted.

At her first meeting, Geist was presented with a packet filled with more than 100 pages of information and several trinkets to represent Bristol Township schools.
