While many schools have cut family and consumer science based curriculum, the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is here to stay.
The group, which promotes the values of the curriculum, has a chapter right at Pennsbury High School. The chapter, which is student-run, is actively involved throughout the local community; one of it’s student members, Stephanie Owens, even created a volunteer program where FCCLA and other Pennsbury students volunteer time at the Galilee Pavilion, an independent living facility in Levittown.

Just recently, six members of the group traveled to a conference in San Antonio, Texas, where members from all 50 states gathered in support of family and consumer sciences.

The chapter annually attends the state and national leadership conferences as an effort to grow their skills and compete with projects they have created using skills gained in family and consumer science classes.
“We would like to highly commend their commitment and encourage others to get involved in their communities as well,” reads a recent press release. “It may only take one simple action to create a huge impact on others.”
