While SWAT teams were busy dealing with two men in a gun shop in Tullytown, a Falls Township man was pretending to be a first responder, court papers say.
William Mulcahy, 39, of Falls Township’s Morrisville section, is accused of impersonating fire police and showing up at the scene of the heavy-publicized standoff with activated blue emergency lights on February 23.

According to court documents, Mulcahy first arrived in his SUV with blue lights flashing and blocked off access to a roadway near Route 13 and the Levittown Town Center shopping area.. He then allegedly traveled to the area of South Kenwood and North Kenwood drives and began acting like a fire policeman. Police said Mulcahy drove through a restricted area during the standoff.
Police said fire police who were already at the intersection began talking to Mulcahy and quickly realized he wasn’t who he appeared to be.
A Middletown police officer, who was assisting Tullytown during the standoff, was called down by a fire police captain to check out the suspected fire police impersonator.

The 39 year old told police he was with “28s,” which references the Eddington Fire Company in Bensalem. He was not able to produce documentation he was with a fire company or that he was allowed to operate emergency lighting in his SUV, court papers state.
During further investigation, an Eddington Fire Company fire police commander said Mulcahy was not affiliated with the company, court papers state. Police said they checked with several other Lower Bucks County fire departments and none were affiliated with Mulcahy.

When confronted, Mulcahy admitted to police he was not with a fire company and just wanted to help, police said.
Mulcahy was charged with impersonating a public servant, obstruction of the administration of law, improper flashing blue lights and driving with a suspended license. He was arraigned on 10 percent of $40,000 bail.
