Given the prediction by the National Weather Service, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has joined with the county health department to issue an extended Code Blue declaration. The Code Blue will last from 6 p.m. on Thursday February 12 through 7 a.m. onย Friday February 20.
County Emergency Management Director Scott Forster and Health Director Dr. David Damsker have notified local public safety officials of the Code Blue declaration. They advise all residents to be aware of another period of severe weather conditions. County residents are urged to check on their elderly neighbors during this period of frigid weather. Caution also should be taken with pets during extremely cold temperatures.

Although the Code Blue was declared by the county, it does not mean Code Blue emergency shelters will automatically be open. That declaration is made by Advocates for the Homeless and Those in Need (AHTN). AHTN operates on a volunteer basis and only opens its doors when it is at least 26 degrees, including a wind-chill, and it has the proper volunteer staff to accommodate the homeless who visit.
The EMA has though made arrangements with Woodside Presbyterian Church in Yardley asking it to plan to activate its shelter during that time. The on-call churches coordinate transportation, temporary shelter, food and other necessities.
