With the economy in such a rocky state, it’s no wonder people are always worrying about their funds. But, why not do what Walansky does and make homemade gifts? They come from the heart and in the end, stress could be reduced.

Around this time of year, tons of money is being spent between parties, gifts and attending nice dinners. People are constantly worrying about how they’re going to pay for everything. And, planning for an actual event can be quite a challenge.

“Planning for the holidays can leave us feeling impatient, cranky, and โ€” in some cases โ€” depressed. When the realities of day-to-day life conflict with our efforts to make the holiday season perfect, stress results,” says Adina Rosenberg, MCAT, BC-DMT, LPC. “The holidays can also bring up old family resentments and add to people’s vulnerabilities. For some, this may be their first holiday after dealing with a death, separation, divorce, move, illness or new job – stressors in and of themselves.”

But, there are ways in which people can feel less stressed and more so relaxed.

“I remind clients to take care of themselves, such as getting proper sleep, exercise and being mindful about their eating,” says Rosenberg. “Focusing on what brings you joy in the here and now and paying attention to that experience is key. ”

She suggests feeling grateful for your loved ones, being healthy and being in the present moment instead of thinking ahead! The holidays are a joyous time in our lives, so it shouldn’t be spent worrying about money and worrying over nothing.

Additionally, she says, ” I also prescribe focusing on others through volunteering for an organization – giving of yourself is the true purpose of the holiday season and ultimately leads to feeling good!”
Happy Holidays!
