Falls Township is gearing up to purchase 10 new bulletproof vests for their SWAT team.

The purchase was authorized last night at the biweekly Board of Supervisors meeting.

Falls recently purchased vests for all of its line officers, but said these vests are much more expensive, due to their durability and use of ceramic plates. The vests will cost the township $1,492.50 a piece.

The existingย vests, which have a shelf life of five years, are set to expire in early 2015.

While the local SWAT team covers officers in Bristol Township, Bensalem Township and Falls, the township has only purchased vests for its officers.
