A 37-year-old Philadelphia man was arrested after police say he lied bout his criminal history on a firearm application.
Michael E. Schultz, 37, was charged Wednesday with making material false statements in the sale or transfer or a firearm and unsworn falsification to authorities.

According to court papers, Schultz tried to purchase a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun at Dicks Sporting Goods in Falls in June. The problem: a background check turned up that he is “currently indicted for a crime for which the judge could imprison him for more than one year.”
The Pennsylvania State Police forwarded the information on the attempted purchase to a Falls police detective in October.
Dennis O’Connell obtained paperwork from the sporting goods store and continued to investigate.

Cout papers say O’Connell discovered Schultz had answer “no” in paperwork that asked if he was currently ” under indictment in any court for which a judge could imprison him for more than one year.”
Authorities alleged that Schultz signed paperwork swearing to the accuracy and authenticity of his answers.

Police said they recently verified that Schultz was not legally able to buy a firearm at the time he attempted to.
Schultz was arraigned before District Judge Jan Vislosky and sent to Bucks County prison on 10 percent of $10,000 bail.
