St. Mary Medical Center physicians will be leading a new organization, developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, which will aim to improve patient experience and reduce care costs.
The new Accountable Care Organization (ACO), according to St. Mary’s is “dedicated to providing high quality, efficient and coordinated care to both fee-for-service Medicare and commercially insured patients.”

The new organization, which was announced Monday,ย is the latest effort in a series of population health initiatives that St. Mary’s has implemented. The initiative is expected to cover approximately 200,000 people within the Bucks County area.
โPatients will benefit from a larger focus on preventive care and better coordination among their PCPs and specialists,โ says Dr. Aldo Ciccotelli, chief medical officer of Quality Health Alliance. โOur comprehensive approach means that we will be providing coordinated care at all levels, including prevention, physician and hospital visits, imaging, rehabilitation, home care, and more, โ adds Dr. Benjamin Chack, president of Quality Health Alliance.
Quality Health Alliance is currently awaiting final approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to begin participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). January 1, 2015, is the expected operational date.
