The Neshaminy Federation of Teacher (NFT) released the results of a membership survey that shows disapproval of the district’s plan for closing three elementary schools, build a new one in Lower Southampton and move fifth graders to middle schools.
The results of the online survey were released Monday afternoon by NFT President Tara Huber, who teaches at Neshaminy High School.

They survey found that 92 percent of educators that replied to they poll disagreed or strongly disagreed with the proposed fifth to eighth grade middle school model that will be voted on by the school board Tuesday evening. The school consolidation plan had 90 percent of respondents either disagreed or strongly disagreed. In total, 284 NFT members took part in the survey.
An NFT press release said the survey was to reassess “educators sentiment ” on the topics.
“We understand the District focused a tremendous amount of time and resources into studying the 5 to 8 middle school model,” NFT President Huber said. “But according to an overwhelming majority of the certified staff, educators insist the model does not reflect what is best for the students in our community schools.”

The results are similar to a March 2014 survey that asked residents and NFT members about their thoughts on the planned movement of fifth graders to the middle schools.
