Assistant Superintendent Dr. Gloria Hancock presented a plan to the school board and community last week and again Tuesday night during a Educational Development Committee meeting.

Hancock said the district had two goals when looking at the plan:

  • What would an effective 5 – 8 middle school look like in Neshaminy?
  • How do we improve middle school overall?

The work group that looked to answer those question came up with three options for the school board to consider.

The options are estimated to have costs ranging from $406,000 to $1.5 million.

The switch would provide students with increased access to social emotional learning opportunities, more time in specials, access to more activities and grade-level teams, Hancock said during her presentation.

If the plan is approved, the move would take place by the start of next school year. Hancock said administrators have a implementation schedule already in place.

A group of parents have voiced serious concerns about plan and the impact it would have on fifth graders.

The school board could vote on the option at the October 28 meeting at 7 p.m. inside Maple Point Middle School. However, the committee did not vote Tuesday to formally recommend the plan.
