Oliver Heckman Elementary School in Langhorne had quite the unique and fun celebration this past week.

The students at the school celebrated ‘Teddy Bear Day’ this past Friday. By paying just $1 as admission, the local elementary school students were able to bring in their favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal from home.

According to Principal Brian Kern, $235 was raised from the event, all of which will be donated to the Bucks County Housing Group’s local foodย pantry in Penndel.

The local community food pantry is part of a network of pantries aimed at helping those in need. According to the nonprofit’s website, those within the community are always encouraged to contribute food to the pantry. Food items like fruit, tuna, spaghetti sauce, sugar, gravy, chunky soups, rice, coffee, microwave meals, powdered milk, cereal and salad dressing are items that are always in need.

According to the organization’s website, on November 1 of last year, food stamp benefits were cut, causing local families in need to lose an estimates 21 meals each month or week of food.
