What was the deal with the big crowd at the Newportville Fire Company station on New Falls Road in Bristol Township?

“It’s just our annual fire prevention event,” said Deputy Chief Walt Prickett.

At the Newportville Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, there were various activities for people to get involved with, including firetruck rides, rescue citations, and the always popular food.

“Fire prevention is something that should be practiced 365 days of the year,” said Prickett. “Today is just a day to push it even harder,” noted Prickett. “[This is] just the way we give back to the community.”

Prickett noted the importance of familiarizing people, especially children, with firefighters. “When people see us, it usually isn’t a good thing.”

The turnout, while seeming healthy, seemed to underwhelm the firefighters present, “[The] turnout isn’t bad, we were hoping for more. You can never get enough people,” said Prickett.

The annual fire prevention open house has been going on as long as current members can remember, however, as noted by a few different firefighters, in the past, the event was smaller and “more personal.”
