The troubled 18-year-old man who jumped off the shuttered Kmart building East Lincoln Highway in Middletown Township on Friday evening was not seriously injured, police said.

The suicide attempt came after first responders located the young man on the roof of the building after a roughly hour-long search in nearby area.

Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla said the young man was rushed to St. Mary Medical Center after he jumped and was released hours later.
A source close to the incident said the young man will receive mental health treatment.
The young man, a Lower Southampton resident, was reported to police about an hour earlier after he indicated he may harm himself.

Officers and other first responders rushed to the area near the Sam’s Club where the young man works and began searching for him, police said.
After a search of the area near the Sam’s Club, he was found on the roof of the Kmart and jumped about 20 feet to the ground when police spotted him, according to authorities.

Bartorilla said officers were able to disassemble a pile of junk that teenagers used to gain access to the building.
