America Hose, Hook & Ladder Company 2 Station 25/53 held their first fire prevention night on Thursday evening. The fire company is hoping to make the event an annual one.
The volunteer fire company, located on East Farragut avenue right next to the Wawa in Bristol Borough, hosted a night of family fun and education. Festivities for children included face painting and dressing up like firefighters.

The event came together after being planned wholly in the month of September with assistance coming from the emergency mitigation and reconstruction company MDL Restoration.
“Tonight is about opening up to the public, show them our equipment, and let them meet firefighters,” said Deputy Chief Tony Bucci. “Not only are they having fun, they’re learning a safety message.”
“If you reach one person, especially kids, then you’re doing well,” said Bucci, continually stressing the importance of educating children on safety matters.

“It is mostly for the kids,” said Chief Jim Mullohand. Mullohand explained that by seeing firefighters in their full uniforms, they might be less fearful if they need to actually be rescued by these figures.
Natalie McCann, of MDL spoke about serving locally and helping local fire houses, “We’re a neighborhood company and we’re giving back to the community,” said McCann. “We’re proud to be able to do the work in the community,” explained McCann.

According to fire company Captain Chris Reed, there are plans for more fire prevention nights in the future. Reed explained that they will always try to be held around the same time, at about the first Thursday in October.
According to Reed, next year the event will be held in a bigger area so more companies may be invited.
