New Farmers’ Market Serving Up Some Fresh Produce Starting This Weekend

When Stephanie Huston was growing up in southern New Jersey, one her favorite ventures was to visit her local farmers market.

“It is important to buy local and support our local agricultural economy. For years, I have shopped local farm stands throughout South Jersey, and when I moved to Morrisville, I was a bit out of my element since the road stands I was used to were not in our area,” says Stephanie Huston, market manager for the Morrisville Community Farmers’ Market. “At a community market, farms and food purveyors, come together to a common location to sell their goods. It brings the farm directly to the people, and builds relationships between those who grow the food and those who consume it.”

The Morrisville Community Farmers’ Market, which works with food purveyors and local farmers, is bringing some fresh farm produce to local residents.  Starting on Sept. 21 through Nov. 9, the market, located at Morrisville High School, 399 Cox Avenue will provide the Morrisville community an opportunity to get together and meet-and-greet with local farmers to chat about their fresh vegetables.

As the first farmers’ market in the Morrisville area, this market will provide fresh produce and other offerings from businesses such as Morrisville Sweets, Rolling Hills Farm, Two Sister Canning, Mystical Dreamers and Happy Wanderer Bakery.

The main mission of the Morrisville Community Farmer’s Market is to supply a venue for local producers, farmers, crafters and artisans to offer the freshest produce and similar products directly to the consumer.

“This market is yet another way for the community to come together and support each other,” adds Morrisville Resident Jessica Simon-Sanko.

Farmers’ markets provide residents with an opportunity to buy food from the farmers, feel a connection amongst them and the land where the food is grown and provide consumers a choice about how their food is grown.

The market promotes nutritious food options, social gathering and community bonding and encourages communication amongst purveyors and consumers.

In terms of Morrisville, it will give residents an opportunity to get together and bond over fresh produce and speak with local farmers about their vegetables.

“I am looking forward to showing off our town to those that decide to visit the market because I do believe Morrisville is a gem and the market will bring people together,” says Wanda Cummings-Kartal, school board director and board secretary for the Morrisville Borough School District.
