Cops: Drug Dealer Leads Officers on Car Chase


A 25-year-old man is in hot water with the law after he lead Bristol Township police on a chase through a three neighborhoods on Thursday.

Bristol Township officer Dennis Leighton tried to pull Hakeem Rivers of Levittown over in the area of Winder Drive and Weston Avenue around 1:15 p.m. after he discovered the Chrysler minivan Rivers’ was driving was reported stolen, police said.

The officer tired to stop Rivers but he failed to pul over, according to court papers. Despite sirens and flashing lights, the 25-year-old traveled from the Winder Village neighborhood into the Bath Addition and into Venice Ashby, police said.

In the 1200 block of Marie Lowe Drive, Rivers reportedly slammed the breaks and began running on foot. After ignoring several police commands to stop, Rivers was arrested in the area of Beaver Dam Road, according to court papers.

Rivers was also wanted on a drug-related warrant out of Bensalem, court records show.

Rivers was charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and driving while having a suspended license in connection with the chase. He was also arraigned on the drug charges out of Bensalem following his arrest. He remains in county lockup unable to post bail.
