County Won’t Hold Pandemic Drill in 2014

Bucks County will not hold their annual large-scale pandemic drill in 2014.

The drill will now be held bi-annually but free flu shots will still be available for county residents, Bucks County Department of Health Director Dr. David Damsker said at this week’s county commissioners meeting.

The move comes after federal regulations related to the funding of the drills make it more time consuming to hold the drill every year, Damsker said. Department of Health staff spends a good portion of their year planning the massive county-wide drill. The drill has happened for the past eight consecutive years.

The county recently purchased the flu vaccines from Sanofi Pasteur for just over $29,000.

Free flu shots will be provided at by the health department on October 4 in Doylestown, October 11 in Levittown and October 18 in Quakertown.

The pandemic drill involved officials from multiple public service agencies including the multiple-jurisdictional police Major Incident Response Team.
