The Lower Bucks County Family YMCA Board of Directors said the sale of the main branch, the playground lot and the Wellness Center on South Oxford Valley Road in Bristol Township is the first step to developing a new facility.

The YMCA said in a media release the sale is needed because the current, dated faculties need extensive repairs.

“A new facility will allow the Lower Bucks Family YMCA to better serve its existing members while attracting local families to the Y,” the statement reads.

“Our vision is to serve more families in the community. The Fairless Hills facility of Lower Bucks Family YMCA is not optimal to achieve this vision,” said Zane Moore, acting CEO of Lower Bucks Family YMCA and CEO of the Central Bucks YMCA.

Programs and other commitments are expected to continue through the sale process of the YMCA.

“Lower Bucks Family YMCA will review all options to assure uninterrupted programs and services to its members during this transition,” the statement said.

In the fall, the Lower Bucks Family YMCA will be calling on the community and donors to take part in a “Share the Vision” event. The YMCA will release more details on the plan and work to get financial support for their new “vision,” according to officials.

As of press time, it does not appear the buildings have yet been placed on the market.

The Tri Hampton and Morrisville branches of Lower Bucks Family YMCA will not be included in the sale and will continue to operate as usual.

The Central Bucks YMCA, under Moore’s leadership, is currently working with officials in Warminster to develop a new facility to replace the current township-run recreation center. The Warminster effort is still in the planning stages.

The Lower Bucks County YMCA recently closed their Bristol Borough branch, which had only been open for about a year.
