The United Way of Bucks County does a lot of good from their office on Hood Boulevard in Falls Township. Recently, a series of thefts have caused problems for the nonprofit.

A newer model central conditioner condenser was taken from the office late last week. The condenser was one that was replaced when the building was recently renovated. A post on the United Way’s website puts the replacement cost at roughly $3,000.

“It’s incredibly disappointing,” United Way of Bucks County CEO Jamie Haddon said. “We have two older units that don’t have that much life left in them. This newer unit was what we invested in when we fixed up our facility. If we want to replace it now, it will cost about $3,000.”
The nonprofit said its the third theft incident in the past two years.
A storage shed behind the facility has been broken into twice in the past two years. The shed, according to the nonprofit, stores other items like home goods, bedding, kitchenware and clothing intended to help those in need in the area.

“We do our best to secure the space, but we’ve had serious people come here with bolt cutters and other tools. They have managed to completely remove the doors and help themselves to items that were supposed to go to people who really need them,” Haddon said.
So far, the items stolen from the storage shed have been replaced, but the security of the shed is still a concern.

The next step for the nonprofit that serves all of Bucks County: replace the stolen air conditioner and work to get a bigger, more secure shed.
The United Way isn’t the only local place to have their air conditioner stolen. Police have said businesses and churches in Middletown and Falls have been victimized. As of late June, police believed the thefts were linked.
