In response to power outages that occurred during the evening storms of July 8, the Board of Bucks County Commissioners will extend senior center hours until 7 p.m. from July 9-11 at three locations. The county Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and Emergency Management Agency (EMA) remind seniors that hot weather can cause serious heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Though everyone should take precautions, seniors and children are especially vulnerable to effects from the heat.

Given the fact that power may be out to some customers for an extended period, residents are encouraged to check frequently on elderly neighbors, friends and family members. Symptoms of a possible heat injury include faintness, dizziness, nausea, weakness, and heavy sweating. For more information on symptoms and treatment relating to the elderly, visit the CDC Web site http://www.bt.cdc.gov/disasters/extremeheat/elderlyheat.asp. As with any emergency, call 9-1-1 when necessary. The elderly also may call 267-880-5700 to speak to the Area Agency on Aging staff.

The following senior centers will be open until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, Thursday, July 10 and Friday, July 11:
