A working smoke detector is being credited with alerting two people on Junewood Drive in Levittown that their home was on fire early Sunday morning.

According to Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito, the residents, who were on the second floor, were alerted to the first-floor fire via the smoke detector around 2:45 a.m. The two people were able to get out of the house unharmed.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke pouring from the home, Edgely Fire Company Chief Carl Pierce said. He added that the fire destroyed the home.
The fire was started by a incense candle left burning on the ground-level floor of the home, Dippolito said, adding the blaze has been ruled accidental.
Pierce told LevittownNow.com the fire did rekindle after daybreak and crews were called back to the remains of the home.
