Governor Tom Corbett announced Wednesday that the Department of Community and Economic Development awarded the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks a $200,000 Keystone Communities Accessible Housing grant that will help county residents and veterans living with permanent physical disabilities make necessary modifications to remain in their homes.

“This Keystone Communities grant will help fund modifications to facilitate improved caregiving and make it easier for these individuals to carry out everyday tasks,” Corbett said.
The Keystone Communities grant will provide funding for implementation of the Bucks County Housing Rehabilitation Program. The program supports low-to moderate-income homeowners who are in need of repairs or modifications to their homes in Bucks County.
The Redevelopment Authority will offer accessibility grants to provide a safe living environment that accommodates the limitations of permanently disabled residents allowing for citizens to remain in their home and preventing the need for them to relocate to a more accommodating location.

Existing rehabilitation programs administrated by the Redevelopment Authority will ensure that the home is safe and in compliance with all applicable housing codes, thus providing a home that is free from both building code defects and is accessible as well as functional for the permanently disabled persons.
“This is a welcome funding source from the Commonwealth as we have over a dozen applicants on our waiting list,” said Bob White, Executive Director, Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks. “With the Commonwealth’s assistance, we’ll be able to ensure Bucks County’s permanently disabled residents and veterans live in safe, healthy and accessible residences.”

Since its inception, the Redevelopment Authority has rehabilitated or improved more than 1,700 homes in Bucks County through the implementation of programs such as the Bucks County Rehabilitation Program.
Administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, the Keystone Communities Accessible Housing Program’s goals are to expand individuals’ living options, promote health and safety, and increase their ability to function effectively and more independently in their home.
