Voter Turnout Low in Most Places

Despite 2014 being an important primary election, local polling places were not too busy on Tuesday.

Director of the Bucks County Board of Elections Deena Dean told LevittownNow.com that voter turnout was reported to be low across the county.

Bristol Borough

Election officials in the north ward reported a voted turnout of about 20 percent at the Corson Street site.  Judge of Elections  Bridget Callahan said in the past more voters usually showed  up in the evening after work. The site had a small issue with one of the voting machines in the afternoon, she said, so it was shutdown and it had no effect on wait time for voters.  As of 7 p.m., about 215 people voted in the ward.

Bristol Township

Polling at locations around Bristol Township was reported to be low or “just around what you would expect,” according to several officials.

At the Benjamin Franklin School on Mill Creek Road, voters were sparse but about five volunteers stood outside distributing campaign literature.

Bristol Township voting district 10-2 reported 116 out of 990 registered voters had come out as of 4 p.m. and 91 out of 1000 in district 6-2 were had cast their ballot as of 4:15 p.m.

Turnout at Maple Shade Elementary School in Croydon was “steady but lacking, an official said.

Falls

As of 4:30 p.m., the three voting districts at Manor Elementary School in Levittown were reporting lower than normal turnout. One judge of election said the voters coming out were mostly older.

The polls at Oxford Valley Elementary School in Levittown were reported to have a turnout similar to the one at Manor Elementary School.

Langhorne

Election officials in the borough said the turnout was “steady.” As of 5:30 p.m., 156 of just over 1,000 registered voters had cast their ballot.

Middletown

The two precincts at Neshaminy High School had a few voters around dinner time. Two election officials at the school said turnout was running at around 20 percent as of 6:10 p.m. Dale Lovell, one of the election judges, said the turnout was “pretty steady.” Turnout at the school was reported to be about 30 percent Republican and 70 percent Democratic.

Turnout at Maple Point Middle School was reported to be “as expected” by a LevittownNow.com reader.

Tullytown

Turnout was reported by a reader to be slow in the morning but expected to increase in the evening.
