The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers (NFT) has officially placed their support behind Democratic candidate for the 142nd Assembly District Gina Kiley.

“Kiley, the only true democrat in the primary, supports quality public education and the rights of union workers. We believe Kiley’s work ethic, qualifications and positions on issues make her the best candidate on the ballot,” a statement from the NFT said.

The endorsement announcement does not come as much of a surprise. Kiley’s opponent is former Neshaminy School Board President Ritchie Webb, who was the district’s lead in the ugly five-year labor impasse with the NFT.
“As a lifelong Republican who used his position as a local elected official to cut school district programs while protracting a five-year teacher contract impasse – he is no friend of public education and no friend of labor organizations,” the statement further said.
The NFT also claims that Webb used their “union logo in campaign literature as a fraudulent attempt to link himself to our organization.”

The state’s chapter of the American Federation of Teachers also made a similar claim on Sunday.
“Candidate Ritchie Webb’s campaign produced campaign literature featuring the AFT logo, which some might mistakenly interpret as endorsement by AFT Pennsylvania. Therefore, I want to clarify that there has been no endorsement by AFT Pennsylvania in this race, implied or otherwise.” AFT Pennsylvania President Ted Kirsch said.

The Democratic primary race in the 142nd District is one of the most hotly contested races in the area.
The newly re-drawn 142nd District now comprises Langhorne Borough, Langhorne Manor Borough, Lower Southampton Township, a majority of Middletown Township, (64%), and all of Upper Southampton Township in Bucks County.
Whoever wins on Tuesday will face off against incumbent Republican Frank Farry.
