District Court Judge Joanne Klein arraigned John McCormick, 47, Monday morning for fatally stabbing his neighbor’s Staffordshire terrier named Angel.

According to court documents, Angel escaped from her home on the 1900 block of Maple Avenue on April 26. McCormick at the time was walking his Jack Russell terrier, police said.

The roommate of the Angel’s owner saw McCormick “laying on top of the dog,” according to court documents, and asked the Bristol man what was he doing.

McCormick replied: “This is what I’m doing.” He then pulled out what authorities described as a buck knife, plunged it into the neck of the Staffordshire terrier and “held it there for several seconds,” according to court documents.

McCormick and the roommate scuffled for several minutes as the Terrier ran across the street and “collapsed,” authorities wrote in court papers.

Angel was immediately transported to a local animal hospital where she subsequently died, according to the probable cause affidavit.
