Police have charged a Bristol Township man in connection with a prescription drug scam.

Christopher Kelly, 42, was charged last week with 237 counts of identity theft, access device fraud, forgery and acquiring or obtaining possession of a controlled substance through misrepresentation.

According to court papers filed by Upper Southampton Detective James Schirmer and Lower Southampton Detective Shane Hearn, Kelly filled hundred of prescription painkiller scripts at pharmacies in Bucks and Philadelphia over the course of two years. In total, police said the 42-year-old received over 59,000 tablets.
Police said Kelly used an embossing device he created to authenticate fake prescriptions.
Investigators spoke with the doctor whose name was being used on the phony prescriptions and he said he only recently became aware someone was using his name, court papers say.

The prescriptions obtained were: methadone, Adderall, Xanan, Prozac, oxycodone hydrochloride and Wellbutrin, according to court documents.
Schirmer became aware of Kelly while investigating a similar case.

Kelly was arraigned and posted 10 percent of $15,000 bail.
