On Saturday, April 26, the playground in the Violetwood section of Bristol Township will be named in their honor, thanks to a $25,000 donation from Dow Chemical and a $10,000 donation Gladys put in her will.
“The Levittown-Bristol Kiwanis Club decided we would improve an existing playground as a way to remember both of these outstanding women,” noted Kiwanis playground committee member Mary Ann Delia, who organized the ceremony.
Roth, a Republican, was elected mayor (executive) in 1986 when the township first switched to the Home Rule Charter system.

She lost re-election in 1989, but remained active in township business and in politics until her death about five years ago.

Carlen died several years ago. She left money in her will for the playground.

Kiwanis used the money to buy new equipment, including several swings for handicapped kids and two new mesh benches.
The dedication ceremony is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. It is scheduled for noon Saturday.
Roth’s husband is expected to attendย on Saturday, along with her children.
