The maintenance was a top dressing to replace the infield with new infield mix.ย It took nearly 70 yards of diamond dust in order to completely cover the infield.

โ€œWe do this for our other fields too, but this is a little more involved. The entire field needs to be top dressed. Usually just a certain part of the field needs done, โ€œ said Joe Arneo, 50, the foreman of Falls Township Public Works Department.

Arneo said the field work was being done in advance of ย baseball season.

The cost of the top dressing was estimated at around $5,000, including trucking of equipment, officials said.

The field, which was built last year, used the same diamond dust as Citizens Bank Park and the Trenton Thunder.

The heavy maintenance was due to demanding upkeep required for the professional level dust used previously on the field. The new dust is cheaper and should require less upkeep over time.
