The Bristol Borough School Board created a new administrative position Thursday night by hiring district principal Thomas Shaffer to the position of assistant superintendent.
School Board President Charles Groff said Friday that Shaffer was hired to help ease the transition as the district is in the process of now accepting applications to hire new superintendent.

In January, the new majority on the school board decided they would not be extending current superintendent Greg Wright’s contract.
Five school board members voted to approve the appointment, with John Doyle and Ralph DiGuiseppe III voting against the move.
Schaffer’s salary will remain the same, Groff said.

DiGuiseppe asked at the school board meeting why was the move necessary but was shut down when Groff said in the meeting it a personnel matter and moved on to the vote.
Shaffer has been with the school district since 1990 and his specific duties were not discussed.
