Nathan Oppmann, 19, has been described by locals as a “nuisance.” And for now, the accused thief won’t be annoying anyone locally.
Oppmann of Croydon appeared before District Court Judge Frank W. Perenteau, Sr. on Wednesday for his preliminary hearing on two cases he is in custody for.

On December 31, Oppmann was caught by a home owner and his neighbor while rifling through a car he had broken into, according to police.
The vehicle was sitting in the driveway of a residence on the 1700 block of Dixon Ave, authorities noted in court papers.
Oppmann, according to the probable cause affidavit, was riding his bike down the block when a neighbor saw him get off the bike and go into a driveway a few doors down from his home.

The neighbor said in court papers he saw Oppmann walk into a drive way and then saw his neighbor’s vehicle interior light come on when he approached he saw the alleged thief inside the car with the drivers side door open rummaging around.
The neighbor detained Oppmann, with the help of the car owner, as they waited for police to arrive telling Oppmann not to run, court records say.

After police arrived, they searched the suspect finding about $27 in crumpled up bills a large sum of loose change, two cell phones, one which was white iPhone and a silver iPod, court records say.
Police asked Oppmann which phone was his and the suspect told authorities he took the iPhone from another car and didn’t remember the address of where the vehicle was located.
Police also discovered the bicycle Oppmann was riding was also stolen, according to court documents and all the items taken were later returned to their owners, court records say.

Police took Oppmann into custody and turned him over to sheriff’s deputies at the time, since he had an active warrant for other theft related charges, court records said
One charge was dropped against Oppmann, poss of instrument of crime and held over were charges of prowling, theft, receiving stolen property with his bail set at 10 percent of $25,000.

Oppmann, in addition had charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and related offenses waived on to the court of common pleas for his second case.
Both cases are scheduled April 11 in Doylestown.

Oppmann is currently in Bucks County Prison being held on 10 percent of $25,000 in the first case and 10 percent of $1000.00 for the second.
