A dwelling fire on the 200 block of Otter Street in Bristol Borough late Wednesday night caused significant damage to the home, fire officials said Thursday morning.

Several first responder companies were on scene ย and knocked down the fire quickly, officials said. Bath Street from Buckley to Pond Street was blocked off by fire crews.
The fire was ignited by a “defective chimney-flueย pipe connection,” Slack said. The defect “allowed heat to escape directly on (to) wood structural members inside the wall causing them to ignite,” he added.
Witnesses on scene told LevitownNow.com the homeowner tried to put the flames out with his own fire extinguisher prior to firefighters companies arriving on scene.

Smoke rolled up and down Otter Street as firefighters fought the blaze in ย frigid conditions, which created a problem on scene that was solved quickly,ย Slack said.
“Theย first hydrant the fire department attempted to use was frozen.ย ย A second functioning hydrant was quickly located and used.ย ย The frozen hydrant hadย no effect on the fire department operations,” he said.
