County Declares 3-Night ‘Code Blue’ as Snowmageddon II Nears

Forecasters have issued a winter storm warning ย for Thursday and as a result, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) ย and the county health department have issued a “Code Blue” beginning 6 p.m. Thursday and extending to Sunday, January 5 till 7 a.m.

Additionally, ย the National Weather Service Thursday morning issued a Winter Storm Warning for the area beginning at ย 6 p.m. and ending Friday 1 p.m.

NWS in its latest update is predicting accumulations of 4 to 6 inches of snow for the Lower Bucks area. The storm is expected to start Thursday evening around rush hour and move out by Friday morning. The heaviest snow will arrive overnight, forecasts predict.

Locally, EMA has made arrangements with the on-call churches who will be coordinating ย transportation, temporary shelter, food and other basic needs for those requiring shelter.

For Lower Bucks residents in need of shelter the Woodside Presbyterian Church is the site for ย January located at ย 1667 Edgewood Roadย Yardley, PA 19067 beginning at 9 p.m.

County Emergency Management Director Scott Forster and Health Director Dr. David Damsker have notified local public safety officials of the Code Blue declaration and advise all residents to be proactive in obtaining information about the anticipated severe weather and check in on older neighbors during the storm.

Caution also should be taken with pets during the anticipated period of extremely cold temperatures.

Strong winds, low visibility and drifting snow is expected.

New England is expected to get more than a foot in some places as the storm moves north. Travel delays on highways and and at airports.

The storm and Code Blue are not the first in the past month. Several snow storms hit the area in December and frigid temperatures previously caused the county to issue a Code Blue.
