The Levittown area is where road, rail and water transit all meet in Bucks County. The executive directors of two large Philadelphia-based organizations that work to interconnect the region said the area is one of the most important transportation and freight hubs on the East Coast.
“Bucks is at the center of travel for the Mid-Atlantic,” Economy League of Greater Philadelphia Executive Director Steven Wray told Bucks County officials gathered the TMA Bucks annual luncheon last Friday.

Barry Seymour, executive director of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, said job centers like Oxford Valley are growing and increased transportation needs exist in Lower Bucks County.
With the Delaware River port in Falls Township, freight lines running throughout the lower end and several highways – the Levittown area is key to transportation for the region.
Wray said the entire region needs to work together to improve infrastructure, which includes aging water systems in Levittown, roadways, the Philadelphia airport and regional rail lines.

“We will have to work together to improve on infrastructure,” Wray told local leaders.
Along with a recently passed state transportation spending bill, which is expected to help fund rail and road repair and expansion programs throughout the area, a major widening of the Panama Canal will likely grow the amount of ships that dock at the port in Falls Township, Seymour said.

Wray also spoke of how infrastructure, business growth and education all lead to growth in the Philadelphia region.
Both the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and Economy League of Greater Philadelphia released plans recently to infrastructure in the region.
The message at the luncheon was clear: transportation and business are the lifeblood of the region.
