A woman police say was shoplifting allegedly told them she was “just kidding” about the theft when they took her into custody recently.

According to Tullytown police, Quitrina Gasden, 27, of Bristol Township, was caught taking merchandise from the Levittown Walmart early in the morning on Sunday, November 17. Gasden walked out of the store and drove off as a loss prevention  employee confronted her a friend, who was driving, court papers say. The other woman has no charges filed against her as of press time.

Nearby Bristol Township police were alerted and stopped the getaway car in the Crown Square apartments on Green Lane a few minutes later.

A Tullytown officer speaking with Gasden wrote in court papers that she said she was “sorry” and “just kidding” about walking out with 32 items worth $333.

While at the Bristol Township police station for processing, Gasden was found to have drug paraphernalia, authorities said. She admitted, according to court documents, to taking cocaine three hours prior to her arrest.

Police said Gasden has previous run-ins with them related to shoplifting.

Gasden is charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released from custody on her own recognizance.
