Chances are if you witnessed a rainbow following the miserable Labor Day overcast, it was the beam of light extended out above the new Dance Strong Dance Academy. The dance studio which sits at 8008 Mill Creek Parkway is a brown stucco building with bright windows, welcoming smiles inside the entrance way and Tiffany Blue painted walls.

DSDA is owned by 2012 Pennsbury graduate, Kourtnie Strong who started taking dance classes at age 2 and always dreamed big of owning her very own dance studio. At the age of 19, she is able to cross that item off her bucket list.
“I’ve been a dancer for a long time, I went to DeSales for one semester and I just didn’t like it. I came home and was taking dance classes here just to stay in shape in the hopes of transferring to another college. It was then that I was offered the amazing opportunity to own the studio.”
Strong was met with an overwhelming amount of support from her friends who told her ‘It had her name written all over it,’ to her mother Danielle whose first reaction was ‘What can I do to make this come true?’.

It was then that Strong, who has competed across the country and in top-notch studios, took on the process of transforming the existing studio into what would be Dance Strong Dance Academy, a place filled with warm, genuine hearts and a non-competitive, anti-favoritism, family-like atmosphere.
“I am not here to walk on other’s toes, I just want to share my passion, see my students shine and watch them have fun,” said Strong. “There’s no favoritism here, I just want my students to learn, I never want them to be afraid or not to feel confident.”

Strong’s mission has been well-received with those throughout the community who have decided to take part in the ‘Dance Strong’ mentality, allowing DSDA to truly break the dance studio mold.
Robin Gilmore, whose daughter recently joined DSDA said, “My daughter danced for five years at another academy and learned more in one class here then she learned in five years there.”

Strong and her fellow dance teacher, Chelsea White have initiated passion and technique into the variety of classes offered. For Strong, she believes in extending that ‘dancing passion’ to the life of any child – no matter the circumstances, and her mother can’t help but agree.

“We will never turn a child away because of a financial situation. Dance gets them here, it gets them off the street,” said Danielle Strong, the owner’s mother. “It makes them feel a part of something.”

To the young kids who may be reluctant to start taking dance classes, Strong wants you to know you are not alone. “Don’t be afraid to try something new, you have to be fearless. I used to be shy and dance was a way my mom broke me out of my shell. If you are able to find yourself in dance then it will always stick with you.”
Kristy Edwards, the mother of a new student at DSDA, couldn’t help but reinforce the idea of confidence and passion, “Here they really help with confidence- especially at a time when the kids aren’t so sure of themselves.”

“Seeing my students progress, it is so rewarding, it just brings a smile to my face,” said Strong. “Even though most of my students are new faces to me, I can’t help but care about them and love them all, they are family.”
