The lingering smoke and chunks of ash falling over the Levittown area since Sunday are not toxic, according to officials in New Jersey, where a massive fire has been burning in Delanco at a Dietz & Watson distribution facility.

An emergency communications supervisor in Burlington County told LevittownNow.com late Monday morning that various agencies and health departments have tested the smoke and ash coming from the multi-alarm fire and have confirmed there were no toxic levels found.

“Everything is is all clear,” said the supervisor.

Emergency officials from the Dow Chemical facility in Bristol were dispatched to the fire scene Sunday evening, according to scanner reports.

The fire started in the nearly 300,000-square-foot distribution facility at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Fire crews from around New Jersey and as far away as Lansdale and Camden responded to the blaze, which an official said is only 50 to 60 percent contained as of 11:45 a.m. Monday.

Residents in almost all parts of the Levittown area reported seeing the column of smoke, many also reported ash falling from the sky.

“Right now, our efforts are focused on supporting the New Jersey firefighters and emergency officials who are battling the fire and ensuring that all are kept safe. These brave first-responders are our friends and neighbors. We are humbled by their efforts,” Dietz & Watson CEO Louis Eni said in a statement.

Fire officials told NBC10 that solar panels on the roof complicated suppression methods.

Emergency crews are expected to remain at the scene for the next several days.
