Tullytown Acting Chief of Police Daniel Doyle announced Friday that the borough will be hosting an eight week Citizens Police Academy starting in September.
“The course is free to residents and we encourage all who want to gain an active knowledge of their police department to attend,” Doyle said.

Officers from the borough department and guest instructors, who are versed in law enforcement, will oversee the classes.
The course is open to people who live or work inside Tullytown, are over the age of 18 and pass a background check. The class is limited to 20 people.
Doyle says that the class is not training on police tactics, but rather an informational program to give residents a look behind the scenes of the police department.

“The mission of the Tullytown Borough Citizens Police Academy is to increase public awareness and confidence, improve community relations and create a better understanding between the citizens and the Tullytown Borough Police Department through education,” according to the chief.
