Dozens came out Tuesday night to Bailey’s Tavern in Levittown for a Democratic Pro Team Fundraiser.
Bristol Township Council President, Bob Lewis Jr, Councilman Craig Bowen and Councilwoman Amber Longhitano were a part of the festivities along with council candidates Murray Bailey and Cindy Murphy.
It was a festive mood to say the least coming of the heels the announced move by ย World Wide Medical Products, Inc. to the township and opening up for business.
Locals were greeted at the door by a potpourri ย of music and local politicos. Hugs, ย congratulations, and a review of the Pro Teams successes since taking office were the main fare for the night.
“This is what can happen when you run a government like a business,” said Longhitano,” if you look closely look at who is working for the township you’ll see ย a lot of nepotism going on. That’s not how you run a government,” she said.
Candidate for council Murray Bailey, greeted supporters with handshakes, listening to the concerns and issues of township residents, telling them if you’ve been happy the last four years with the council member’s we’re running against ย then you’ll vote for them, if not, then you’ll vote for us.
From one side of the room to the other, and all away around, supporters highlighted the work of the current board.
Bristol Township is open for business, Gerard Lykon, Director of the Bristol Township Business Association said. Past administrations have spent a lot of time chasing business’ away from Bristol, but now with the Pro Team, that’s ended, we are attracting them again, just the way it should be, Lykin said, as his wife nodded in agreement.
Lewis, at the back end of the tavern was holding court with supporters, sharing details related to to World Wide Medical Products announced move to Bristol and sharing stories about his professional football coach brother, feeling “confident” about what voters will do Tuesday. As they music played, people ate, and talk about the work ย “that still needs to be done” hoovered in the air.
Longhitano, when asked who the Pro Team leader is, said, we don’t have a leader or spokesperson. We’re not beholden to any one person or thing, our responsibility are the Taxpayers of the township. That’s were a team, not one person telling others what can or can’t be done. The proof is there for all to see, she said. “Take the sewers for example, for years problem after problem, money thrown at it, and what did the township get? More issues. Now for two months straight, no fines and we;’re working ย towards total compliance, with all the nepotism going I understand why nothing ever really got done, she said.
Each ย person turning our for the event, spoken to, essentially made the same argument, why go backwards to the way it was, it didn’t work then, and it won’t work now, and those in the party have to see and know that.
