If you aren’t connected to the Middletown Township municipal government or read the public announcements printed in the back of the Sunday newspaper, you may have missed that the Board of Supervisors will be holding a special meeting Monday evening at 5 p.m.
In a public announcement printed in the Bucks County Courier Times, board secretary Drew Kreiling announced the township’s governing body would hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday at the municipal complex. As of Sunday night, the meeting does not appear to be listed on the township’s website.

According to the township, the meeting is to discuss a proposed agreement that would provide the Sesame Place with a full-time Middletown police officer during the summer months.
At last Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting, Supervisor Chairman Pat Mallon said the board had to gather more information before voting on the issue.
Township police officers have publicly questioned whether agreeing to station an officer full-time at the amusement park would reduce police coverage.

“It would take an officer off the streets, with no replacement. And how do you cover a 12 hour shift (at Sesame Place) with just one guy?” one officer questioned.
The head of the local police union said the department is already short handed during the busy summer months.

In past years, officers volunteered to work shifts at Sesame Place and were paid an overtime rate. Under the proposed deal, the stationed officer would receive normal pay.
The police department union and township are in the midst of contract talks, a source said.
