PennDOT Seeks Volunteers To Join in Statewide Spring Cleanup

PennDOT is seeking volunteers to participate in its Great American ย Cleanup of Pennsylvania effort that runs through May 31.

The cleanup event is an annual effort sponsored by PennDOT, Keepย Pennsylvaniaย Beautiful, state Department of Environmental Protection and other partners.

Groups involved in PennDOTโ€™s Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) program, which involvesย volunteers cleaning roadsides year round, are also encouraged to

participate inย the cleanup.

โ€œThese cleanup programs play a huge role in keeping Pennsylvania beautifulย through cleaner roadsides and communities,โ€ said PennDOT Secretary Barry J.ย Schoch.

Upcoming local ย events:

  • ย The first event, sponsored by the Center ย for Student Learning Charter School, will take place from 9 am to 12 pm on Fallsington and Tullytown roads on April 6. Potential participants can contact Rita Bernhart atย ย 215-269-7390 ext. 40 or ย E-mail ย rbernhart@cslcharter.org.
  • The second, supported byย Family & Friends of Bobby Cloud, will kick off at 9 am and go 12 pm, and involve litter cleanup on Levittown Parkway between Rt 13 and New Falls Rd. For more information, call Richard Cloud atย  267-265-8587

According to PennDOT,ย last yearโ€™s Great American Cleanup, 6.7 million pounds of litter was collected from Pennsylvaniaโ€™s roads, trails and shorelines by more than 141,000 volunteers.

In addition this year’s cleanup host, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, is hosting its first ever Great American Cleanup Video Contest. ย Interested parties can send in a video three-five minute video of their cleanup efforts by May 24,ย For contest rules and information please visit ย http://www.gacofpa.org/

During the โ€œPick it Up PA Daysโ€ from April 20 toย Mayย 6 registered events have access to free disposal at participatingย landfills.

PennDOT provides gloves, trash bags and safety vests to AAH and Greatย Americanย of PA groups.
