Tuesday, 4:58 p.m.:
PECO spokesperson Fred Maher confirmed that the helicopter buzzing over Levittown Tuesday was contracted to do aerial inspections of power lines.
Throughout the area, the helicopter surveyed approximately 2,700 miles of power lines.
“They look for any problems that are not be visible from the ground,” Maher told LevittownNow.com. “It’s pretty helpful.”
Maher said Tuesday was likely the last day the chopper would be hovering over the Levittown area.
Original Story:
The low-flying helicopter that hovered over Levittown throughout Tuesday morning was not connected to any police activity, a county radio dispatcher said.
The helicopter is linked to inspection work that a utility company is doing on systems in Lower Bucks County, the official said. LevittownNow.com is awaiting further information from the utility.
PECO used helicopters to inspect power equipment from the air in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which left much of Levittown without power for days.
Residents throughout Levittown were awoken by a low-flying police helicopter from Philadelphia in December. That incident was part of a police task force used to catch thieves who were stealing copper from PECO substations throughout the area.
